Although Broten played the bulk of his career in the Minnesota North Stars franchise, Broten won his only Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 1995. Broten also won the Lester Patrick Trophy in 1998, a year after he retired. During Broten’s Stanley Cup year, he scored 28 points during 30 games with the Devils, and 19 points in 20 playoffs games. Broten’s #7 was retired by the Dallas Stars on February 7th 1998. Broten was a member of the US Olympic Team that won Gold in what was known as “The Miracle on Ice”.
